Treadmill tips

  • Add some incline to your walking or running workout. Turning up the incline will help firm up your glutes and also help you to burn up to 60 percent more calories. If you don’t have a treadmill to workout on, go outside and find some hills to walk up.
  • Everyone wants to run further and further each time they get on the treadmill or go for a run. Some people extend their legs so they get less of a strain. If you want a better workout, you should increase the speed of your steps and not your stride.
  • Take your workout outside. If you normally workout on a treadmill, head outside. Not only will you get better scenery and some fresh air, going outside is a boost to your workout. Research shows that outdoor workouts can help exercisers to burn 10 percent more calories while walking or running at the same speed because you use more energy to move on the ground, than on the treadmill.
  • Make your warm-up the same style of exercise as the one you will be strenuously performing. If you plan on running on a treadmill, you should first stretch, then walk slowly for a bit. Turn the slow walk into a brisk one, and you are ready for the run. You need to make sure the muscles are ready for the work.
  • Cardiovascular exercise should not be the only type of exercise you participate in, but it should definitely be a huge part of your workout. Walking on a treadmill is a great way to do this type of exercise. It is recommended that you do not perform cardiovascular exercise more than an hour a day. The reason for this is you start to lose muscle mass. The right amount of cardiovascular activity really strengthens a person’s fitness level.
  • Make a playlist of songs that get you pumped up for your workout. Listening to fast, upbeat music while working out on the treadmill or elliptical will help you keep the pace needed to stay in the zone of a good aerobic workout. Find music that makes you want to get up and dance and move to keep your heart beat up and your mind focused.
  • When your exercise regime begins to become easier, amp up your fitness routines by increasing the intensity. Some think that by exercising for longer periods of time they will achieve better results, but the importance lies in pushing your body harder. If you are jogging on a treadmill, increase the speed to take your exercise to the next step.
